My analysis of my Recurrent Corneal Erosions
I developed Recurrent Corneal Erosions after my small daughter poked me in the eye. In hindsight it was the trigger for the problem. I developed a problem of my eyelids sticking to my eye, which went along with intense pain of ripping off the surface layer from my eyes when waking up, and required subsequent time to repair in the morning with extreme light sensitivity… a story many here likely recognise. The eye doctor identified the problem, and prescribed a bandage contact lens, which worked well--although on occasion that one stuck as well--but never as bad.
After about a year I figured out the cause: eating lots of wheat products caused my nasal passages to stuff up, resulting also in either mucous dripping through my tear ducts into my eyes at night or inflammation of my eyes… causing the tear liquid to dry out and become stuck.
Cutting back on wheat, specifically bread, improved it sufficiently and use of Sudafed type product (nasal spray) reduced the problem so much that eventually I felt confident enough to stop using the bandage contact lens. And now when I notice my eyes become a bit sticky, I cut back bread and or use Sudafed nasal spray. Since then, over the last 10 years, I have not had any issues. I hope this helps someone to escape this debilitating issue.
Best wishes,
Rom
